About Chords

Who are we?

We’re Chordially Yours, an all-female a cappella group at Boston University. We were founded by Beth Heald (’03) in 2000. Since the group’s introduction into the BU a cappella scene, we have competed in the Faneuil Hall A Cappella Fest (winning third place in 2007), as well as competing annually in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, or ICCAs (winning Best Arrangement for “Hide and Seek” in 2007, as well).

In Spring 2011, we released our newest studio album, Chordz Bop. Chordz Bop is on sale now, along with our last album, 99 Problems But A Pitch Ain’t One. Past live albums include AcapocalypseCandY and League of Our Own. We hold three annual concerts, one at the end of each semester and a charity show in mid-fall. Past beneficiaries include The Ray of Hope Foundation, a children’s hospital in Uganda and not-for-profit group Cross-Cultural Solutions. We also participate in many other on- and off-campus events. This past February, we sang the National Anthem at a BU Men’s Hockey game.

In addition to organizing charity events to raise funds for organizations in need, we also love working with high school groups and holding workshops for young singers.

We write all our own arrangements, with the exception of a few oldie favorites, and pride ourselves on our vocal percussion abilities, as skilled beat-boxing is (generally) a male-dominated talent.

What do we sing?

Chords are known around campus and in the area for our unique blend of personalities. As a result, our repertoire ranges the gamut of genres, including but not limited to classic rock, indie, R&B, oldies, and current pop.

Where can we be found?

Outside of weekly closed rehearsals at the College of Fine Arts, we perform all over campus and the city, destinations that range from Marsh Plaza and BU dining halls to Faneuil Hall and Newbury Street.

In spring 2010, we took our musical repertoire on tour, where we got the chance to perform with different a cappella groups throughout New York City in places like Washington Square Park and downtown in the middle of Times Square.

We welcome any opportunity to perform with groups throughout the New England area! For more information, visit our Events page.
